Uvongo Self Catering Holiday Accommodation South Coast

Uvongo boasts a huge selection of self catering holiday accommodation. Vitually all with gorgeous sea views and within walking distance to the beaches. Uvongo is a lovely little seaside resort village on the Hibiscus Coast. It is probably most famous for its picturesque waterfall that plunges into a lovely little lagoon. The lagoon and beach are protected by steep cliffs and dense indigenous trees and foliage which must make Uvongo Beach one of the most beautiful in the world. Paddle boats and canoes are for hire on the lagoon and curios are available to buy or admire at the local craft market on the beach. The name Uvongo is derived from the Vungu River that falls and cascades into the lagoon. The Vungu River, in turn apparently derives its name from the Zulu word for the sound a river and wind make when going through a gorge.

Other attractions include numerous rock pools that stretch from Uvongo Beach to Lucien beach and the fishing pier on the edge of the beach. Lillie Crona Avenue is a 2.5 km stretch of road along the rocks between these two beaches which is abuzz with walkers, joggers and cyclists every morning and evening. Uvongo beach also has a fresh water kiddies pool and a tidal pool nearby.

Uvongo beach has lifeguards and also shark nets. It is an excellent swimming and surfing beach. Surfing lessons are available for those who are willing to give it a try. Boogy boards, umbrellas etc are available for hire or purchase next to the beach. View our Things To Do page for a list of activities for your whole family to do on holiday. Explore & Visit the South Coast, there is plenty more to do on the South Coast.

Activities include the 5 km park run from St Michaels beach to Uvongo beach every Saturday morning along the bush trails along the rocks. The local bowls and tennis club both welcome visitors if you feel like a game.

It also has a selection of restaurants and pubs. It also within 5 km of two shopping malls namely Shelly Beach and South Coast Mall. Nearby attractions include the nine 18 hole golf courses within easy driving distance. Oribi Gorge which has zip lines, white water rafting, mountain biking etc and a restaurant right on the edge is only 50 km away. Horse-riding on the beach is offered. The South Coast Sun with its water park, casino, water sports etc is also only 50 km to the South.

The South Coast enjoys a warm subtropical climate due to the influence of the warm Mozambique current that flows south along the coast. The temperatures are generally quite warm and even the winters are mild. Sea temperatures seldom drop below 19 degrees C, even in mid winter. The South Coast receives good summer rain and the vegetation is green and lush but it also enjoys about 320 days of sunshine each year.
